Description

Satis House, formerly known as Yoxford House, is a building that was originally a private residence and is now an hotel. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations and extensions. The structure is made of red brick with a stuccoed facade designed to imitate ashlar, featuring rusticated stone quoins. The roof is slated at the front and plain tiled for the rest of the building.

The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical arrangement of four windows, with a 1:2:1 configuration where the wings are slightly set forward. The ground floor features French windows, while the first floor of the wings has tripartite sash windows, all of which have stucco surrounds. The central entrance consists of paired doorways with glazed double doors, sheltered by a mid-19th century porch that spans the full width of the central section. This porch has two square, tapering pilasters, one central column, a frieze, a cornice, and a stone balustrade above, along with semi-circular headed sidelights.

The building has a wooden modillion eaves cornice, except for the central recess, and hipped roofs on the wings that include small dormer windows. To the right side, there is a one-bay mid-19th century extension that matches the original style. The left-hand return front features a five-window range with sashes that have glazing bars in flush frames and flat brick arches.
