Description

The Old Bakery is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 18th and early 19th centuries, set forward to the left side. The original structure is timber-framed and plastered, though the facades were given a mid-20th century appearance with applied half-timbering. The roof is pantiled. The house is two storeys high with an attic. It has various casement windows, some with square leaded panes. A mid-20th century bow window has been added to the right side, replacing what was originally a shop window shown on a print from the mid-19th century. An 18th-century wing has a mid-20th century boarded door. A gable end stack is present on the main range, and an external stack on the 18th-century wing. The interior has been considerably modernised, but retains some exposed timbering, particularly on the ground floor. The early 19th-century wing features a fireplace with good Adam-style woodwork.
