Description

Chediston Grange is a farmhouse that has been divided into two dwellings. It has a core dating from the 17th century, which was significantly altered around 1860. The original timber-framed structure is completely encased in pale yellow brick from the mid-19th century, and it features a plaintiled roof with crest tiles. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and has a four-bay facade. The entrance bay, which is the third from the left, is slightly set forward.

The windows are inset sash types with glazing bars, placed under flat brick arches. The first and fourth bays have tripartite windows, while the second bay has coupled sash windows that likely were originally similar to those in bay four, both of which are slightly recessed. French windows are present on the ground floor. The doorway is slightly recessed and features inset double three-panel doors topped by a segmental fanlight with radial glazing bars, along with panelled reveals.

The building has a moulded stone eaves cornice and a crenellated parapet, with three yellow brick stacks, two of which have dentilled embellishments. The right gable end includes semi-circular headed sash windows on the ground floor and porthole windows at the attic level, indicating that this end is a later addition compared to the main facade. There is also a colourwashed brick service wing from the 18th century at the rear. Inside, there is a mid-19th century staircase with heavy twisted balusters, and some floorbeams feature double-ovolo moulding and barred stop chamfers. The site is moated.
