Description
Ivy House is a house that dates from the late 16th century, with a refacing and partial rebuilding that occurred around 1760. The rear wing was added in the 19th and 20th centuries. The core of the house is timber-framed and is faced in plastered and colourwashed brick, topped with pantile roofs. The main roof is hipped, featuring a left of centre ridge stack and an external right end stack made of brick.
The exterior presents a two-storey front with six windows. There is a right of centre six-panel door that has a blocked six-vane fanlight above it, all set within a reeded doorcase that has panelled reveals. The windows are primarily 6/6 unhorned sashes, with three horned replacements.
Inside, the original rear wall, which is now internal, reveals the exposed timber-frame, featuring jowled principal studs that rise to tie beams. On the ground floor, there are two principal rooms at the front that are lined with large frame panelling and dado rails. The fireplace in the hall retains some late 16th-century brickwork. There are intact 19th-century gas light fittings and one chamfered bridging beam in the rear extension. The roof has largely been rebuilt in the 20th century.
