Description

The Forge is a former house and forge, now used as builder's premises. It dates from the 17th century and features a main range with an early 19th-century smithy to the south. The main range is timber framed, with parts plastered and others cased in colourwashed brick. The roof is tiled with plain tiles to the north and pantiles to the south. It has two storeys and various casement windows, along with a 20th-century half-glazed door at the gable end. The smithy is constructed of colourwashed brick and has a pantiled roof. It is a single storey with casement windows, a boarded half-door, and a main entrance that features iron gates. The main range is attached to Wistaria Cottage and may have originally been part of the same property. At one time, it was used as a malting.
