Description
The Round House is a gamekeeper's lodge for the Thorington Hall estate, built around 1820, with later alterations and significant additions. The original structure is a two-storey rectangle with chamfered corners and single-storey semi-circular wings on each long side. It features small flint pebbles, painted brick dressings, and thatched roofs. The building has two-light casement windows, with those at the ends of the main block having chamfered heads. Each semi-circular wing has one doorway: one with a half-glazed door and the other with a four-panel door, where the upper two panels are glazed and topped with a thatched hood. The main block includes a plinth and a brick band at the first-floor level, while both wings have a plastered plinth. The unaltered wing has a plaster band at the eaves level, while the other wing has a plastered flat-roofed first-floor addition. Inside, the main block has a central internal stack with two square flues set diagonally. There are late 19th-century and 20th-century extensions to the west.
