Description
The water tower, built around 1873, is located 50 metres west of Orwell Park School and was originally used to supply water for domestic purposes at Orwell Park. It stands approximately 20 metres tall and is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings. The tower features four stages. The base stage includes banded rusticated brickwork and has angle buttresses at the corners, each topped with a limestone urn finial. The second stage displays paired blind windows with semicircular heads on each face, along with less prominent angle buttresses at the corners that have fleur-de-lys finials. The third stage contains smaller paired windows and shallow clasping buttresses. The fourth stage is distinguished by a large single window with balustrading beneath it. The parapets are adorned with a moulded and dentilled cornice, and the open balustrading is finished with obelisk finials on the corner piers.
