Description

Doves Cottage is a late 16th-century cottage located on Mill Lane in Chattisham. It features a timber frame with rendered walls and plain tile roofs, designed in a T-plan with a two-cell lobby entrance and a rear wing. The cottage has two storeys and includes 19th-century timber casements with horizontal bars, consisting of two lights to the left and three lights to the right of the door. On the first floor to the left, there is a three-light metal casement, with the outer lights being leaded. The entrance has a boarded door adorned with two elaborate strap hinges and is sheltered by a 20th-century porch. A brick stack is present, with the shaft having been rebuilt in the late 17th or early 18th century. Inside, the cottage features very heavy chamfered beams and joists with bar stops, and the stairs are located in front of the stack. Access to the upper floor is not available.
