Description

This is a 16th-century timber-framed and plaster-rendered house, significantly altered in the 18th and 19th centuries, located on the west side of Little St Mary’s in Long Melford. The front elevation features rusticated quoins. Originally, the upper storey was jettied across the entire front, but the northern section was extended in the 19th century with the addition of a shop front. This northern addition has a jettied upper storey supported by closely-spaced, carved brackets. The house has two storeys and a four-window front with double-hung sash windows lacking glazing bars. A central six-panel door, topped with a semi-circular fanlight featuring radial glazing bars, is set within a stucco doorcase with pilasters and a rusticated surround. The roof is tiled, with old tiles, and has a modillion eaves cornice.
