Description
Nos 6 and 7 on Richardsons Lane are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century, with a 19th-century rear extension. They are constructed with a timber frame and are weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tiled roof and featuring a central red brick chimney stack. The rear kitchen range has a 19th-century red pantiled roof. The cottages are two storeys high with attics and have a two-window range of early leaded metal two-light casements with transoms and drop over hinges. The doors on the right and left are vertically boarded with simple surrounds and pentice boards above, accessed by stepped approaches.
Internally, No 6 retains brick ground floors, while No 7 has been concreted over. Notable features include a 19th-century bake-oven and an 18th-century corner cupboard with shelves and a door. The stairs near the chimney lead up to the attics. The cottages also have various original vertically-boarded doors with hand-wrought hinges and catches, as well as a vertically-boarded stair head wall. The frame incorporates much reused medieval timber.
