Description

Nos 1 and 3 High Street, formerly known as the Queen's Head, is a large timber-framed and plastered house primarily from the 16th and 17th centuries, with possible elements from an earlier 15th-century structure. The building has undergone significant alterations, especially on the front, during the 18th century. Number 1 features exposed timber-framing on the north side and at the north end of the east front on the upper storey. The west front is mostly faced in colourwashed brick and the building has two storeys. The windows are arranged around a large central carriageway in a pattern of 1:2:1:2:1, with mainly double-hung sashes that include glazing bars, as well as some casements. The ground storey predominantly has 3-light windows on the east front. Number 3 boasts a well-preserved early 19th-century shop front, which has been renovated, featuring glazing bars in the window, pilasters, and a cornice. On the north side, there is a 18th-century oriel bay on the upper storey and an original mullioned casement. The roofs are tiled with old tiles and are hipped.
