Description
Nos 1 and 2 King Street are a pair of buildings dating from 1692, located on the north side of King Street. They are constructed from Suffolk brick and rise to three storeys, topped with slate roofs. The facade features a window arrangement of 2:1:2, with the central window set in a slight recess and designed as a sash with glazing bars. A central Doric porch adds to the architectural detail, complemented by stone floor bands and a projecting wood eaves cornice adorned with grouped modillions. On the southeast side, there is an inset tablet inscribed with "T Jones 1816." To the west, there is a two-storey wing with a single window and a ground floor bow window on the return. To the east, a small one-storey shop premises has a modern front and other alterations. Nos 1 to 11 King Street and the Bear Hotel are recognized as a group.
