Description

Barclays Bank, located on the north-east side of High Street, is an early 19th-century building notable for its unusual style in a small country town. Built of Suffolk brick, it is three storeys high with a slate roof. The building features a five-window facade with sash windows and glazing bars, set within stone or stuccoed lintels. The central part of the front facade bows across all three storeys and incorporates three windows. A projecting Doric loggia, comprising six columns, dominates the ground floor, with a double door entry at each end. Nos. 40 to 58 (even) form a visually cohesive group.
