Description
Bank House and The White Lion Hotel is a building located at 42 and 44 High Street, dating back to the 18th century, although the original structure likely dates from the 16th or 17th century. It features a painted brick front with a parapet and is constructed with timber framing over two storeys and attics, topped with hipped tiled roofs. The front displays a moulded brick cornice and has a six-window range with sash windows that include glazing bars set in painted reveals. The central entrance is framed by a wooden pediment doorcase. Inside, there is a small courtyard and a gallery, which have been much restored but remain quite pleasant. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 40 to 58 (even).
