Description

These are widows' homes, built in 1887 for the Berners estate. They are constructed of red brick with a tile-hung first floor and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and consists of a four-bay central section with single-bay cross wings projecting to each end. The design is in a Domestic Revival style. The front features Tudor-arched plank doors with carved spandrels set within moulded surrounds. The windows are ovolo mullioned with four lights and leaded glass. A plaque is located on the centre of the first floor, displaying a crest and the inscription "HB 1887 WIDOWS HOMES". Gabled half dormers have mullioned windows with leaded lights, bargeboards and finials. The gabled cross wings also feature finials. The roof sweeps upwards and has cresting, along with three groups of ridge stacks with moulded cornices.
