Description
Chaplain's Cottage and Gascoignes is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, likely built in the 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is rendered, with a plain tile roof and red brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped layout with a gabled range at the angle and stands two storeys high. The front range has a four-bay frame, although it has undergone extensive alterations to its exterior. There is a 20th-century porch and a large bay window on the left side, along with two casement windows. The first floor includes two casements, a fixed light, and a top-opening window. The building has off-centre and end stacks, with a large external stack at the angle of the range. Inside, the framing of the front range is exposed, showcasing beams and joists, as well as studded walls on the ground floor. The first floor features jowled posts and chamfered cambered tie beams with arch braces.
