Description
Blacksmiths Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 16th to 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a plain tile roof and a red brick chimney stack. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has an off-centre lobby entry. The entrance includes a vertical panel door, and there are 16-pane sash windows, with the one on the right being a replacement from around 1985. A gabled dormer also features a 16-pane sash window, and there is a tall ridge stack.
Inside, the cottage has studded walls and chamfered beams, some of which have tongue stops, along with exposed joists. The room to the left contains a fireplace with an elliptical arch under a hoodmould made of moulded orange brick. There is a newel spiral stair located behind the stack. The former kitchen to the right features an inglenook with a timber bressummer. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins. At the time of the last survey, the cottage was undergoing renovation.
