Description

The Linnets is a house likely dating from the late 16th to 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is timber-framed and partly underbuilt and cased in red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. Some sections are rendered, and the roofs are covered with plain tiles. The house has red brick stacks. The main range has a gable end facing the street. It is two storeys high and comprises a two-bay frame. To the left is a single-bay range with a single storey and attic, and a later, lower extension to its left. The front of the single-storey and attic range is cased in brick, featuring a doorway with a soldier arch to the right, and a 20th-century casement window to the left. A gabled dormer sits above the end ridge stack. The two-storey range has its ground floor and first floor cased in brick, featuring 20th-century casement windows. External stacks are present on the gable ends, and one roof is swept. Inside, the house features a studded wall with a jowled post, a beam with a tongue stop, and an inglenook fireplace in the single-storey range. It is believed to have been a former service range of High Trees Farmhouse. The building is included on the list for its group value.
