Description
The Smithy is a building with origins dating back to the 16th century, featuring later alterations. It has a timber-framed structure, with parts cased in brick and others covered with weatherboarding. The roof is made of pantiles, and there is a brick chimney stack. The building is single-storey and consists of two bays. The left side has a stable door, the center has a multi-paned window, and the right side features a 16-pane sash window. The eaves are dentilled in part, and the building has been extended to the right.
Inside, the Smithy has studded walls and a pair of jowled posts with arch braces that support a cambered tie beam. This beam holds an unmoulded crown post with braces extending to the purlin. At the time of the last survey, the Smithy was still in use as a working smithy.
