Description

Fen Farmhouse is a farmhouse that consists of two builds from the 16th century and around 1600, which was restored in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is rendered, with a plaintile roof. The building is two storeys tall and follows a two-cell lobby-entry plan, with an extension at the rear. There is a central axial brick stack and a central boarded door. On each floor, to the left and right, there are two-light timber casement windows. A similar casement window is found on the first floor and attic on the left-hand return. The farmhouse has a good quality close-studded frame, although much of the right-hand return's ground floor frame has been replaced. The rear wall has been partly removed at ground level, while the left-hand return's ground floor is made of brick.

The left-hand cell features bar stopped chamfers on the ceiling beams and square joists, along with an exposed brick fireplace that has an original bressumer. The right-hand cell contains two small three-light ovolo moulded mullion windows positioned below ceiling level, square joists (some of which have been replaced), and an exposed brick stack made of English and mixed bonds. This cell also has chamfered arriG and chamfered bressumer first-floor jowled posts, along with an original ceiling that includes a cambered beam. An original window is present at the front, while a blocked four-light diamond mullion window is located at the rear. The left-hand cell has cross beams on the ceiling that are braced against the wall. The right-hand cell features a two-bay butt purlin roof with collars and cranked braces, while the left-hand cell has a two-bay clasped purlin roof, also with cranked braces.
