Description
Chaloners Cottage is a house with a 17th-century core, substantially refaced in the late 18th century. The house is timber-framed and largely encased in Flemish bond brickwork, characterised by flared brick headers, and has a plain tile roof. It follows a two-cell lobby entry plan. The two-storey, symmetrical front has three bays. The central door is within a reeded doorcase topped by a flat, shallow canopy. The doorcase has panelled reveals and soffits, with reeded panels and rosettes at the angles. The door itself is of six recessed panels. There is a timber cross casement window beneath a cambered brick arch to the left, and one to the right (the left window dating to the 20th century). Three timber cross casement windows are on the first floor, and were replaced in the 20th century. A plain brick band marks the storey level, and a central axial brick stack rises above. The rear wall and an outshut are timber-framed, with some framing visible in the left-hand gable wall. Lamb's tongue stops are present on beams to the right, while those to the left are either encased or have been replaced. The staircase behind the stack has been replaced. The roof is likely a butt purlin roof.
