Description

Tudor Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with extensions from the early 17th century, 18th century, and 20th century. It is timber framed, rendered, and has a plaintile roof. The building has two storeys and consists of two cells. Originally, it featured a hall with an inserted stack and ceiling, and it was extended or rebuilt to the left in the 18th century. There is an off-centre axial brick stack that has been rebuilt. A 20th-century porch and door are located in the lobby entry position. To the left, there is a small paned 19th-century horizontal sliding sash window, while to the right, there is a two-leaf small paned casement window, which may be from the 19th or 20th century. The cottage has three top-hung small paned dormer windows; the left and right ones are likely in 18th-century gabled dormers, and the centre one is a flat-roofed 20th-century addition. A lean-to addition on the right has a similar 20th-century casement window. The rear of the cottage has further 20th-century additions and alterations. The stack, which is said to be an inglenook with a bressumer, is currently covered over. The hall features an inserted ceiling with axial and transverse beams that have wide lambs tongue stops to the chamfers, along with horizontal joists. There is an arch-braced tie beam to the former open truss, which has been partially cut through, and there is a later partition above. The roof is smoke blackened with collar rafters, many of which are now missing. The 18th-century build features typical scantling and a side purlin roof.
