Description
Barclays Bank, located at 11 Market Hill, was built in 1879 and designed by architect B. Binyon from Ipswich. This two-storey building features attics and is constructed of red brick. The brick-cased dormers are adorned with pilasters and scrolls that lead up to a steep pediment. It has a tiled roof and a carved brick entablature. On the first floor, there are four casement windows set within brick cases. The ground floor includes wood mullion transom casements positioned between pilasters, with the entrance on the left featuring a matching fanlight. An illustration of the building was published in Building News on August 8, 1879. This building is part of a group of listed buildings on the south side of Market Hill.
