Description

Haywards Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-16th century, with later alterations. It is timber-framed and has a lower section made of painted brick and rendered surfaces. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features red brick stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a central 20th-century doorway located beneath a gabled tiled porch. The windows are 20th-century casements. The roof is swept, and there are external gable-end stacks. At the rear, there is an extension with a pent roof.

Inside, the cottage features chamfered jowled posts, chamfered beams, and exposed joists. The rear wall displays diamond mortices. On the first floor, there are two trusses, a chamfered cambered tie beam with arch braces, and the bases of crown posts are visible, along with square posts that have braces to the purlin and collars. The roof has undergone alterations, including the insertion of purlins.
