Description
Thatched Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with later alterations. It has a rendered 19th-century brick exterior and retains some timber framing. The roof is thatched, and the building has a three-cell plan with a facade of four bays and one and a half storeys. The windows are 20th-century casements with shutters, and there is a 20th-century timber porch on the third bay. The roof features four eyebrow dormers and an off-centre axial stack, with the roof height changing in the right-hand bay.
Inside, during restoration in 1980, the right-hand bay was noted to have jowls remaining on the principal posts, arch braces to the cambered tie beam, and queen posts that are arch braced to the purlins. There is a five-light diamond mullion window in the gable wall, and a floor has been inserted. The adjacent bay is built as two storeys, with a tie beam set below the wall plate. It features arch braces from the jowled posts to the collar beam, a spur tie between the wall plate and arch braces, and queen posts to the collar beam.
