Description
Church Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 15th to 16th century, with later alterations including its subdivision into two cottages, though it has now been restored to a single dwelling. There is a 20th-century rear extension that is not of special interest. The building is timber-framed, rendered, and partially built in brick. It has a plain tile roof and a red brick chimney. The structure is single-storey with an attic. There is an overgrown door to the left and the main entrance is at the left gable end. The facade features two casement windows and one small central window located below the eaves, along with gabled dormers that also have casements. The roof is swept and has an off-centre ridge stack. The left end is underbuilt in brick and includes a 20th-century bay window. Inside, there are jowled posts and studded walls, along with a shutter groove and mortices for diamond mullions. The inglenook has chamfered brick jambs and a chamfered timber bressummer. The smoke-blackened coupled rafter roof is only partially visible.
