Description
The Grange is a 15th-century timber-framed and plastered building with a tiled roof, originally designed as a hall house. It features cross wings at both the north and south ends, with 17th-century alterations and additions. The property has been renovated and includes an L-shaped range of outbuildings extending from the north end of the west front, creating an open courtyard to the south. The building stands two storeys tall, with the upper storey of the cross wing jettied on exposed joists. An additional block to the west also has a jettied upper storey supported by curved brackets at the south end. The east front showcases casement windows with leaded lights, and there is a 17th-century gabled porch with small side lights featuring turned baluster mullions. The gable of the porch displays a cartouche inscribed with the date 1689. Inside, the roof contains some smoke-blackened timbers and a massive cambered tie beam with a moulded crown post. The main block has a central chimney stack from the 17th century, with grouped diagonal shafts, and there is one gabled dormer on the east front.
