Description

This building comprises two properties at 31 and 31A Friars Street. Dating to 1692, the front elevation is of plastered brick and is topped with a parapet. The building has two main storeys, cellars, and attics containing four dormers, with a tiled mansard roof. It features a three-window arrangement, with two-light sash windows containing glazing bars, except for the central window. A doorcase is centrally placed, incorporating a pediment, fluted Ionic pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-panel door. To the right is a two-storey, two-window wing, likely dating to the early 19th century. This wing is stuccoed and has a floor band, flank pilasters, and recessed sash windows containing glazing bars, with a tile roof. A separate entrance is located on the west return, at number 31A. The building is part of a group with numbers 27 to 31 (odd), The Friars, numbers 33 to 45 (odd), and numbers 49 and 51.
