Description

This is a group of three tombs with wrought and cast iron railings, located approximately 2 to 4 metres east of the east wall of the chancel at the Church of All Saints. They date from around 1848 to 1878. The two tombs belonging to the Topple family are next to each other, while the tomb of the Childe family is situated a further 2 metres to the northeast.

The railings of the southern tombs are supported by three moulded principal posts on two sides, each with three smaller posts in between. The principal posts feature twisted lower stems with capitals and bases, and moulded and scrolled upper stems, topped with acorn finials. The railings of the adjacent northern tomb have three moulded posts on two sides, with moulded bases, capitals, rings, and four decreasing pointed quatrefoils as finials. The double rail includes continuous crossed circles and finials. The railings of the northeastern tomb consist of four sets of three posts, each with capitals and bases that support twisted columns. Twisted scrollwork, ending in trefoils, braces the rails, and foliated quatrefoiled finials sit above.
