Description
Hadleigh School, formerly known as Hadleigh Hall, is located at 1161 Pound Lane. The building incorporates elements from the 17th century and possibly earlier, although these features are largely hidden by later renovations and additions. The current front facade is made of 19th century red brick with stone dressings, featuring a canted oriel window on the first floor above an advanced central entrance that has a depressed pointed doorway. A sculptured coat of arms is also present. The building is two storeys high with four windows in the main section, which includes several splay bay mullion transom windows. To the left is a tall one-storey wing, while a modern two-storey wing with one window is situated to the right. The roof is covered with red tiles. Inside, there are likely early 17th century attic roof members and various hand-wrought two-panel doors on the first floor. The ground floor has renewed beams with mouldings, and there is a wide staircase from the late 19th century leading up to the first floor.
