Description
The Deanery is a building constructed in 1831, located to the north of the gatehouse, designed in the early 16th-century style using red brick. It has two storeys and attics, with a tiled roof. A cross wing was added to the north end in 1841. The west front features six gables, with two larger gables at the north and south ends and four smaller ones in between. A brick cornice with trefoiled cusping runs around the building. The windows are arranged in a pattern of one, four, and one, all square-headed with moulded brick labels. Inside, there is said to be a dining room that includes a fine Adam fireplace and carving by Grinling Gibbons, which was taken from the old rectory, as well as a painting by Canaletto from around 1750. The listed buildings in Church Walk form a group.
