Description

These are probably a 16th and 17th century timber-framed and plastered cottages located on Hall Street, Long Melford. Originally a house with a cross wing at the north end, a further wing has been added to the north, which makes the cross wing appear as a central gable. The cottages are two storeys high. The upper storey is jettied across the whole front, but at varying levels. Curved brackets support the cross wing and the south block, while the north wing rests on heavy shaped brackets. There are three windows across the front; the upper storey has double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground storey has four small oriel bays. Number 2 retains an original boarded door with strap hinges and a four-centred head. The roofs are tiled with old tiles. The interiors feature exposed timber-framing.
