7/56 North Martello Tower approx 500 metres east of Bristol Hill on the site of the former HMS Ganges, Royal Naval Training Establishment

Martello Tower. Circa 1808-1812. Vari-coloured brick. Rusticated stone dressings with keystones to doors and windows, some of which are blocked. Stone coping. Repairs and refacing to brickwork. The large circular tower now supports a black brick and metal water tower. Built as part of defensive system to East and South Coasts during the Napeolionic war. This tower is of the larger, elliptical East Coast type.
