Description
The ceremonial mast of the former HMS Ganges, located at the Royal Naval Training Establishment, was in use from 1907 to 1976. This structure, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, is made of timber and stands 143 feet high with standing rigging. It is partly composed of the foremast of HMS Cordelia, a corvette that was decommissioned in 1900, and partly of the top mast from the sailing battleship Agincourt, which was built in Portsmouth Dockyard in 1892. The top gallant and all yards were replaced in 1955, and these components were made in Chatham Dockyard, along with the gaff, which was renewed in 1961.
