Description
Nether Hall is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier for the rear range and has an 18th-century front range, featuring early 19th-century gault brick facing. The building is primarily timber framed and plastered, with a painted gault brick facade. It has end chimney stacks on each range and a double range of red plain tiled roofs, with parapet verges on the front range. The facade includes end pilasters, and the central bay projects slightly forward. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, with reveals and moulded lintels supported by brackets. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a moulded lintel on brackets.
Inside, much of the rear frame is hidden, but the top plate, bridging joists, and jowled storey posts are visible. Historically, Nether Hall was part of the Manor of Over Hall, one of the two manors in Shotley.
