Description
Abbotsford is a house, partly converted into flats, dating from around 1830. It is constructed of gault brick and features slate roofs. The southeast front faces the road and consists of a two-storey main block with three bays. A gabled projecting porch has a doorcase with reeded Tuscan columns beneath a metope hood. The windows are sashes with glazing bars; those on the ground floor are set within recessed arches reminiscent of Soanian style, while the upper windows have gauged skewback arches. There is a paired panel eaves cornice beneath a shallow hipped roof, and the garden front is similar. To the northeast, there is a three-bay addition that connects the original block to a gabled pavilion that rises through two storeys. Inside, various pieces of floral plasterwork decorate the principal rooms. A short staircase leads to the right-hand ground-floor room, which is designed to mimic a medieval hall, with another staircase located at the "solar" end.
