Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church that dates from the 12th century, with elements from the 13th century and late medieval periods. It is constructed of flint with ashlar dressings and some brick, topped with a slate roof. The church features a round western tower, an aisleless nave, and a south porch, although the chancel has been destroyed. The late medieval tower includes brick dressings, twin lancet bell-openings, and a parapet.
There are two three-light rectangular-headed Perpendicular windows and two late 13th-century Y-traceried windows, one of which on the south side has been rebuilt in brick. A re-used 12th-century keeled billet moulding serves as the hood-mould for another Y-traceried window, which also features carved label stops. The tower has a remarkable late 13th-century blocked north door adorned with filletted bowtells and hollow rolls.
Notably, the tower door showcases fine 12th-century ironwork of exceptional rarity, displaying serpentine and interlace motifs. On the east wall, there is a 13th-century ogee-headed niche that retains some medieval paintwork. Additionally, fragments of 12th-century chevron moulding can be found embedded in the tower wall. The church also contains a 14th-century octagonal font with quatrefoils.
