Description
The Kennels is a farmhouse that has been converted into two homes and is now a single residence again. It dates from the late 16th century and features a taller side addition from the 17th century. The building has a rendered timber frame, with some parts replaced by colour-washed brick, and is topped with thatched and pantiled roofs. The original cottage is one storey with an attic, while the addition has two storeys and an attic.
The windows date from around 1700 and include metal casements with original decorative spring latches, although some standard windows from the 20th century have been added. The original cottage has single dormers on both the front and rear, and the front door is located opposite the stack. The stack features three fine angled shafts in the gable end of the added section. Inside the original cottage, there are a pair of surviving service doors and beams with wide chamfers and stepped stops. A staircase is located on the entrance side of the stack, and the later addition has ogee and nicked chamfer stops. The original cottage also has butt-purlin roofs with wind bracing.
