Description
Hill Farmhouse is an early 18th century L-plan lobby entrance house located on the west side of Great Melton New Road. It is constructed of brick with a pantiled roof. The original design featured four bays, with tall segmental arched window openings which have since been blocked. The house now presents as three bays, with three-light casement windows set beneath skewback arches with cambered soffits. There are blocked oval windows in the gable ends. A two-course plat-band runs along the facade, and the eaves feature shaped sprockets. The house has an attic space, accessed by a gabled dormer to the rear. The main entrance is in its original position, opening into a surviving lobby against the central axial stack. A projecting straight stair was added in the 19th century, and a service stair is situated against the gable end. Inside, there is an 18th century fitted corner cupboard with shaped shelves and panelled doors. The steeply pitched roofs are characterised by buttpurlins, collars, ties, and ridge boards.
