Description

A range of houses and shops, likely dating from the 17th century, is situated on Bond Street. The building is timber-framed with a roughcast front and windows from the early 19th century. It has a steeply pitched pantile roof with brick coped gable ends, and overhanging moulded eaves supported by paired brackets. The building is two storeys high with an attic, and contains seven windows. The windows are sashes with glazing bars. On the ground floor, numbers 13, 19 and 21 have 19th-century shop fronts, featuring thin pilasters, fascias and cornices; number 13 retains its original glazing bars. Numbers 15 and 17 have moulded architrave doorcases with cornices and panelled doors. There are three segmental headed dormers with glazing bars in the attic. Brick chimney stacks are present. An 18th century brick wing is located at the rear of numbers 19 and 21. A lean-to is attached to the north end. Internally, there are chamfered beams. The building’s group value derives from its contribution to the character of the street.
