Description
The Wicklewood War Memorial is a Grade II-listed structure made of Portland stone, located by the south door of the Church of All Saints, which is also Grade I-listed. The memorial features a Celtic cross adorned with decorative knot work on its head and shaft, rising from a tapering rectangular plinth. This plinth is elevated on a rectangular base and a low step.
On the front face of the plinth, the names of ten men who died in the First World War are incised. The main dedicatory inscription reads: "WICKLEWOOD WAR MEMORIAL/ 1914 – 1918/ REMEMBER BEFORE GOD THESE FALLEN/ IN THE GREAT WAR." The west face of the memorial includes an additional dedication that states: "ALSO REMEMBER THOSE/ FALLEN IN THE WORLD WAR/ 1939 – 1945/ (4 NAMES)."
Surrounding the base is a square stone kerb with four corner posts, which encloses a bed of stone chippings.
