5/6 "The Dower House",Mergate Hall.

GV II Barn below, dwelling above. C17 and later. Colour-washed brick with pantiled roof. East end originally timber-framed, rebuilt in brick in 1789 (tie-ends). 2 storeys with attic. Some original 3-light ovolo moulded mullion windows at ground floor. C20 fenestration at first floor. Steep pitched roof and crow-stepped gables. Fine ovolo moulded principal beams with elaborate faceted stops at first floor level and to the western end of ground floor. 2 original door frames with chamfer stops and a partly original winding stair from first floor to attic. Fine 11-bay roof (3 trusses to each rebuilt in 1789) with clasped purlins reduced principals and straight wind braces.
