Description
Bracon Ash and Hethel War Memorial is a war memorial made of grey granite, located at the roadside at the junction of B1113 (The Street) and Hawkes Lane in Bracon Ash, South Norfolk. It is prominently placed on a triangular green in front of the village hall. The memorial features a granite obelisk divided into three sections, which stands on a square-sectioned rough-hewn plinth that has a dressed cornice and recessed smooth panels with black leaded inscriptions. This is set on a low, single-step base. Surrounding the memorial are four low, rough-hewn, four-sided grey granite posts connected by metal bars.
The front face of the memorial displays an inscription in leaded lettering that reads "TO OUR/ GLORIOUS/ DEAD/ 1914 + 1919." To the right, the names of those who fell in the First World War are listed above the inscription "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN/ THIS: THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS/ LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." The rear side commemorates the Second World War with the inscription "SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939 + 1945/ (NAME)," while the final side also includes a name.
