Description
Nos 4 to 6 on Market Hill are a late 17th century to early 18th century building, now generally incorporated into No 6. The structure is two storeys high, timber framed, and has a plaster exterior that is colour-washed. The roof is covered with renewed pantiles and features an ogee bracket eaves cornice.
On the first floor, there are four three-light casement windows that are canted on corbels. The ground floor has a modern display window with three lights on the left and two modern display windows beside it. The central entrance features an 18th-century door with an eared architrave and pediment, although the original door has been replaced with glazing. The shop front includes a wooden case with pilasters and a central entrance.
Historically, this site is traditionally associated with St Nicholas Chapel, and several old walls beneath the building are believed to date from an even earlier period. Nos 1A, 1B, 1C, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 form a group.
