Description
The barn at Thwaite Hall dates from the 16th or 17th century and is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped with a pantile roof. It is a six-stead barn with a brick plinth and features two waggon doors located on the north face in the second and fifth bays. There is a later addition to the south, which includes a cart shed on its eastern side. Inside, the barn has a frame made of heavy scantling, with arch braces supporting the tie beams near the waggon entrance bays. The roof structure includes butt purlins and an upper range of clasp purlins, as well as queen posts. The southern range is partially ceiled and was likely used as a stable, while the rest of the interior is not accessible.
