Description

15 Market Place is a Grade II listed building located in Wymondham. This structure, which dates back to the early 17th century, was likely constructed after the fire of 1616. It features a rendered and colourwashed timber frame that is scored to imitate ashlar, topped with a machine tile roof. The building has two storeys and a dormer attic, with a late 19th-century plate glass shop front consisting of four bays plus a door, along with some 20th-century details.

To the left, there is a subsidiary door that led to a former passage at the rear. Evidence of a former first-floor jetty can still be seen. The first floor has three 2-light 19th-century casement windows. The gabled roof is adorned with two large gabled dormers at the eaves line, which overhang on scrolled console brackets; each dormer contains one late 18th-century two-light casement window. There is a stack on the main slope to the right and an internal gable-end stack to the left, shared with No. 14, featuring four rebuilt diamond flues.

At the rear, there is a two-storey cross wing with a brick west wall and a south gable. Inside, the ground floor has a sunk quadrant-moulded bridging beam with a roll and hollow soffit, while the first floor features heavy scantling studs and straight corner braces. The east room includes a sunk quadrant-moulded bridging beam and some large-framed panel partitioning. The east wall of the east wing shows remnants of an ovolo-mullioned timber window. The roof has clasped purlins, with the lower tier of purlins butted.
