Description

The Old House is a large 18th-century red brick house, likely with origins in the 16th century, exhibiting some stop-chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. It has a steeply pitched tiled hipped roof and a modillion eaves cornice. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with six windows. These are sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat rubbed brick arches. A central doorway features a moulded doorcase with fielded reveals, a frieze, and a cornice supported by console brackets, leading to a fielded panel door. The front facade was altered in the 20th century with the addition of a recessed brick ground-floor bay with a moulded brick cornice. There are three dormers, each with a sash window and a pediment; the central dormer has a segmental pediment. The side walls are painted. The rear of the house includes a central gabled wing and a roughcast wing with a pantile roof.
