Description
Duddon House is a pair of houses located on Bridewell Street in Wymondham, dating from the early 17th century. The buildings are timber-framed, likely with a brick underbuilt jetty, and feature a pantile roof. They are two storeys high, each consisting of two bays plus a central door, with the arrangement altered in the 19th century. Each house has two panelled doors with 19th-century cases and hoods, flanked by a three-light casement window on either side. The windows for No. 6 are early 19th century, while those for No. 8 are from the 20th century. The first floor of No. 6 has two early 19th-century two-light casements, with matching windows in No. 8 that are also from the 20th century. The houses have a gabled roof with a central ridge stack on a moulded plinth.
Inside, the timber frame features corner tension braces and jowled studs, with chamfered and tongue-stopped bridging beams. The fireplace and stairs in No. 8 were added in the 20th century. Although much of the roof has been replaced, the lower section retains two tiers of butt purlins and arched windbracing.
