Description
Whipple Green is a 17th-century lobby entrance house that was converted into cottages in the 18th century and later reconverted into a single dwelling in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with some rendering and features a pantiled roof. It has two storeys, and the returned south gable end indicates that the house was originally timber-framed. A continuous 17th-century brick plinth supports 18th-century brickwork above. The windows are mainly 19th-century casements, and there is a blocked lobby entrance on the east side of the stack. The building has a saw-tooth and dentilled cornice, and an original stack with a former stair on its west side. Inside, there is one original fireplace with a cambered lintel that has ovolo moulding and barred stops. The roof is primarily 18th-century, but some original tie-beams remain. Additionally, there are original floor beams with simple run-out stops.
