Description
The forecourt railings, gates, and gatepieces at The Great Hospital were designed in 1799 by John Browne, following Mr. Bird's plan. The entrance features hollow iron gate pieces with lattice panels and ball finials, which flank wrought iron double gates. On either side of the gates, there are spearhead railings attached to a stone dwarf wall, consisting of nine iron panels. Smaller gates are positioned to the right and left, each flanked by later brick piers topped with ball finials.
